Why We Love Item Upgrades (And You Should Too!)
gear upgrade of Exile Item Upgrades Item upgrades are a common and crucial method to enhance the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can be a good source of extra damage, more AD or even more affixes. In most cases, however upgraded Common and Magic gear is beaten out by Rare-grade equipment due to their higher requirements. Armor Armor upgrades are a kind of upgrade that can be applied to weapons and armor items. They improve the performance of the item they are attached to. Armor upgrades are available in the world of games and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged by using an expert or higher salvage kit to salvage upgrade components from items. The amount of damage that an armored piece or weapon will absorb is contingent on the level of its upgrades. The absorption of damage by a piece armor will increase when it's upgraded to its maximum upgrade level. It is important to note that this will increase the weight of the armor, therefore it must be heavier. There are many different kinds of armor upgrade available in the game. Each one has a distinct effect. For instance, certain upgrades give the armor a certain number of additional health points, while others make it lighter and stronger. The name of the upgrade will indicate the kind of upgrade an item can receive, as shown below. A few upgrades also feature magic or a hybrid of technology and magic which is identified by the “Magic” or “Hybrid” entry in the table below. Some upgrades also require charges for use. They are referred to as “Charges” entries in the table. These charges are either continuously updated or never expire based on the upgrade. Iron Ore is the cheapest method to upgrade your armor. You can find it by exploring and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more expensive but can be found at the smelters in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge and the Hot Potato Books, can only be applied to high level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide significant improvement in stats and are a worthwhile cost, especially for single-handed weapons. The process of upgrading an armor piece to the highest upgrade level will significantly boost its defense but the wearer must be aware that putting on weight will dramatically reduce its agility and speed. It is not recommended to upgrade armor past +9. The boost in defense typically isn't worth the weight and power expenses of the upgrades. Weapons Weapon upgrades allow players to enhance certain aspects of their weapon. For example an upgrade could increase the damage dealt by shotgun shells or the accuracy of the sniper rifle. Some weapons also have special enhancements that enhance their intrinsic qualities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, and reduces the risk of overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's speed to cause more damage) are two examples. The majority of upgrades to weapons require three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade for applying. These can be obtained by finishing side quests, killing a certain number of bosses or monsters, or from the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine. To upgrade the weapon, equipment set piece or Whetblade, you must visit the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee of a certain amount of bars. The higher the upgrade level, the more bars required to complete it. The cost of the upgrades will be lower if have more than one of the relevant upgrade materials. In Chapter 2: Season 5, the way you upgrade your equipment and weapon sets changed a little. Prior to Chapter 2 Season 5, you could upgrade your weapon or equipment by paying a certain number of Bars. You could do this until the weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level at which point the upgrades would be reset. It's still possible, but it is dependent heavily on RNG. Instead, you're better off going to the stores and buying equipment with low upgrade levels, but excellent base scores and stat distributions. They will also have a better chance of bringing you the best tier of perks and blessings. Most players will want to prioritize upgrades to the weapons they are most likely to use to make sure they are able to level up quicker. Players should also upgrade the weapons their squadmates use to make them stronger. For instance, Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to increase its utility when paired with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali. Jewels Jewels can be used to boost a stat or provide secondary effects on weapons and armor. They can be made through an process known as jewelry crafting, which is where you combine a gem and several reagents at a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the gemstone, the better its secondary effect. These reagents can be obtained from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses all over the world, or by finding Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler in exchange for gold and Scattered Prisms. The Jeweler can boost the quality of a gem in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. Depending on the tier of the gem it can provide different stat boosts when it is inserted into weapons, gear and jewelry. The Jeweler can create the highest levels of gems except for the rare and legendary ones which you must be at an appropriate level to obtain. Jewels can be replaced by another jewel without damaging the original. However it is only possible to replace one jewel in a piece of equipment once. Using more jewels in a movement will make it more smooth, and is often used to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. Jewels also enhance performance and create a harder surface than steel, so that the repeated friction from pivots does not cause damage to the movement. In addition to the upgrades mentioned above additionally, players can acquire glyphs for their shields and weapons from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs provide a small boost in power and can be traded, but they're not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded like jewelry, at the Jeweler for gold, and also scattered Crystal. Glyphs may also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as traits or aegis can't be swapped, and can only be recovered with an Upgrade extractor or salvaging with the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage. Trinkets Trinkets are small pieces of equipment that provide many small but useful benefits to your hero. They can be acquired starting in the beginning areas as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, and by doing road interactions. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers. The first trinket a player is able to unlock is the cloak, which gives a small, but valuable boost in speed of movement and the ability to escape. After that, they can acquire rings, amulets, and necklaces in the same fashion to how the player can acquire weapons and armor. Every piece of equipment has a slot for an upgrade that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades are smaller and are able to be used on any device. Jewels are not upgradeable or replaced, and can only be used with certain trinkets. These trinkets provide additional buffs and abilities that are active even when the hero isn't engaged in combat. This allows a hero to be more efficient when they are not active. It can also make up for the absence of excellent slot in the talent tree or team which would normally be filled by the hero's optimal stats. As a rule trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best in Slot) items that you aren't likely to replace anytime soon. Also, consider items that have desirable statistics aren't as important as the iLevel for the item that is to be upgraded. This is especially true if an item has multiple stats you'd like to upgrade as it's usually more beneficial to upgrade one crucial stat than two subpar ones. Jungle players will often upgrade their yellow trinkets to a red one prior to the start of the game. Top and mid players, on the other hand, will choose a pink or green ward, depending on the matchup. These choices will have a major impact on the hero's ability to control his map. Aside from the items listed above, players can also find a number of other items in the form of awards and trophies. These can be earned by completing certain milestones in the story. For example, completing a chapter’s main quest or defeating a boss. These can be viewed by selecting the appropriate achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
